Henderson almost did not exist.

In 1941, what we now know as Henderson, Nevada was established as the site of the Basic Magnesium Plant, built to support the World War II war effort. Magnesium was a critical material used in aircraft manufacturing, and at its peak, the plant produced nearly one quarter of the nation’s entire magnesium supply. Thousands of workers relocated to Southern Nevada, and a small industrial town was born almost overnight.

When World War II ended, the plant shut down and the future of the town was uncertain. Without the wartime production demand, Henderson nearly disappeared. Over time, private companies purchased the industrial facilities, the area diversified, and in 1953 Henderson officially incorporated as a city.

Fast forward to today, and Henderson is now one of the most desirable cities in Southern Nevada. From master planned communities like Inspirada and Green Valley to luxury neighborhoods in MacDonald Highlands and Lake Las Vegas, the city has transformed from an industrial outpost into a thriving residential destination.
